Could you suceed in Salters Den?

4 July 2017

The Salters Den competition returns for its third year and is open for applications from the 1st of July 2017.

If you are an entrepreneur or business start-up located in Winsford or Northwich and started trading on or after 1st January 2016 you are eligible to enter.  Has your new business been successful in its infancy? Do you need a cash injection and expert business mentoring and support to take it to the next level? Have you got a great idea and business plan but need investment and advice to make it a reality? Then you could be the next winner of Salters’ Den and its £2,500 cash prize.

Salters Den sees local businesses Howard Worth Chartered Accountants join forces with Moss Haselhurst Solicitors, NatWest and Cheshire West and Chester Council to form the judging panel in the den.

The amazing prize for the winner is £2,500 cash as well as one years free accountancy support and business advice from Howard Worth and legal mentoring from Moss Haselhurst. There are also rewards for second and third place with six months and three months support and mentoring respectively. The competition is open for entries from 1st July to the 27th October 2017. Visit the website www.saltersdencompetition.co.uk for the full competition rules and to submit your application.

Since the competition launched in 2015 the judges have been overwhelmed by the quality of new businesses in the local area and the innovation they have shown.  The two previous winners both excelled in the “den” and their prizes have led to the further progression for their businesses.

“Winning the Salter’s Den competition has helped transform Nearcut from a part time interest to a sustainable business.

2016 Winner – Will Bell, Technical Director

Nearcut Limited

Salter’s Den turned out to be the best decision of my journey as a start-up. The advice I received during my presentation was invaluable and the support that I got after, and continue to receive to this day helped me take my business to the next level. If you are considering entering the competition I would strongly recommend it, you have nothing to lose but your limitations.’

Codilia Gapare – C-Lash

Inaugural Salter’s Den Competition Winner in 2015.

Howard Worth Cover Complex Tax Issues To Assist International Acquisition

26 April 2017

A recommendation from a previous Howard Worth Client, led Andy Rowlands to contact the Accountants and Business Advisors for funding and structural advice regarding the possible acquisition of Talascend Holdings Ltd, a company where he previously held the role of Managing Director.

Talascend Holdings Ltd offers technical engineering recruitment services and specialises in providing staffing and global mobility support services within the Energy, Infrastructure and Power Generation market sectors. Their UK offices are located in Manchester and London with additional offices in India, Switzerland and Abu Dhabi.

Howard Worth’s corporate finance team introduced Mr Rowlands to Dave Green of Secure Trust who were able to provide the funding for the acquisition. At this time the team also brought in the specialist legal support required by engaging Scott Sands from Myersons.

Given the international nature of the business, Howard Worth’s Tax Partner, Tim Lwin’s involvement would prove key in facilitating the deal. His extensive knowledge of international tax law was harnessed to asses the full implications of transfer pricing and inter-company transactions in relation to the acquisition.

“Working on this acquisition allowed two specialist departments at Howard Worth to unite together. By collaborating in this way, we ensured that the various international elements of the deal were completely understood by both the buyer and seller. There were some very complicated Tax issues that needed to be covered, without which the final value of the company and the deal itself could have been affected.” Richard Barnett, Managing Partner, Howard Worth.

“Given the complex nature of this transaction it was essential to identify partners who could provide support on both the domestic and international aspects of the deal. I would like to thank Howard Worth, Myerson and Secure Trust for working in a collaborative manner to close the deal”.  Andy Rowlands. Talascend Holdings Ltd.

The vendor was represented by Blick Rothenberg and Field Fisher.
